We begin this module by extracting the earnings data from the payroll journal.

However, several complications arise from its structure:

• Alignment issues: The report columns may not be properly aligned.
• Different structures within the report: The earnings and deductions sections are organized differently.
• Unwanted rows: Some rows share the same structure as the data we need but are not relevant.

To tackle these hurdles and accurately extract the earnings data, we will use the Expert Engine Mode to address alignment issues. Next, we will create detail, append, and group footer templates to extract the earnings data. We will use an exclusion template as well to ensure that irrelevant rows that satisfy the traps will not be extracted.
